So Dapper!

Maybe a tad over-the-top for an ordinary game of mini-golf...but then the Mascot isn't an ordinary kid.

Headboard cover is a sham

Actually, it's TWO shams.

I had these lovely quilted shams to match my bedspread, but didn't want to add any more pillows to my bed.

Instead of hiding them away in a drawer, I folded them over one of the bars on my headboard.

Easy, peasy...and I love how it looks against my dark green wall.

Day 15 - Alone

The Mascot spent the night taking care of me because I am sick sick sick and he didn't want me to wallow in self-pity and aloneliness.

Day 5 - Something Good

A night out with my charming and hilarious son + all-you-can-eat sushi + frozen yogurt = something (very) good.

Day 4 - This Happened Today

Everything and nothing happened today.

And, just as I was ready to slip into a Cheerios and almond milk-fuelled pity party, the Joy Division song that I was listening to was immediately followed by The B-52s, proving my long-held theory that Rock Lobster is a perfectly acceptable antidote for stress.

Day 1 - Play

I won this nifty little Bluetooth speaker and $30 in iTunes cards in a raffle tonight, but they almost didn't come home with me.

After all the numbers had been drawn and most of the prizes had been claimed, two baskets remained. After several "going, going" calls, they announced that they would redraw for the remaining prizes. Great...except I had already thrown my non-winning tickets in the trash.

With valuable merchandise and gift certificates on the line, this was no time for pride. I marched over to the garbage can, reached in, brushed aside some noodles (oh, god, I hope they were noodles), fished out my 4 strips of (soggy) tickets, and made it back to our table in time to hear one of my numbers called!

In addition to the speaker and iTunes cards (I gave one to the Mascot), I won some cellphone accessories and two $25 gift certs to spend at Rudy's and Black Pearl Coffee.

Well played!

(Sn)over the Top!

Looking out my window right now, it’s hard to believe that the first day of spring is just two days away. (For those of you not in Winnipeg, it’s a freaking winter wonderland out there!)

Usually, my first day of spring coincides with MAWA’s annual Over-the-Top art auction and cupcake party. Every year, we stand outside and enjoy the warm temps while munching cupcakes and waiting for the much-anticipated raffle.
This year, however, it was anything but warm. It was COLD. And SNOWING. And did I mention the cold? By the numbers, it was a full 36 degrees COLDER than last year. What the heck?
BUT, frigid temps aside; it was, as always, a lovely event. Undeterred by the cold, a bazillion people came out to bid on 153 pieces of art and eat dozens and dozens of cupcakes.

The two pieces that I had in the show, “An Extraordinary Woman” and “Three Little Houses”, sold for $90 and $110, respectively, and my Oreo cupcakes were a hit. (At least, I assume they were, as there were none left by the time I got there around 3:30pm.)
Our only disappointment was a silent-auction shut-out, but we can’t win every year, right?
I am already planning next year’s art… and next year’s cupcakes!
